However, if its pressure that's driving the turbine, there will still be an adverse effect of pressure drop caused by cooling of the gasses - the further away the turbo is from the exhaust ports, the cooler the gas and the lower the pressure - can this be overcome by careful sizing of the primaries?

Well done for having a go, but I fear you'll never get better results than stock - many professional tuning companies have tried and failed As for the distance of the turbo from the exhaust ports, minimum is generally best as it makes best use of the gas speed - however you need to consider whether you're going purely for short header length, or whether you're going to attempt to get equal-length headers As for primary tube diameter, you are again faced with a compromise - do you want to shift lots of gas, or do you want to shift the gas quickly?
